St. Louis and Detroit worked out a deal that gives the Wings the upgrade they were looking for while adding a late 1st to the Blues' stockpile and giving them a good young goalie.
To Det:
Nathan Horton C/RW, 27y 68ov
Cristofer Nihlstorp G, 28y (AHL)
Cash for 2012/13
To St.L:
Sergei Kostitsyn LW/RW, 25y 64ov
Daniel Altshuller G, 17y (AHL)
2013 1st (Det)
Quote:
Kostitsyn has already been a part of this organization briefly a while back so we know what we're getting with him, a decent offensive forward in the CPHL who should be playing top line in the NHL when they resume.
Altshuller adds a very good and very young goalie to our prospect pool. He's shown improvement every year he's played and is looking great this year as the starter in the OHL.
The 1st round pick will likely be a very late one but will probably be used to pay off one of a couple 1st's owed to other teams.
I think the deal works for both teams and thank GM Young Guns for the talks.

Kostitsyn fits closer than Horton to the age group GM Ryan seems to be targeting and if he does indeed get a real opportunity to play on the top line in Nashville as it appears he will, without his brother there to distract him he could become a legitimate 1st line player in the CPHL. Looking at the future of the Blues goalie pipeline, a young goalie or two with potential are needed as the veteran tandem of Anderson and Auld can't last forever. Altshuller is a welcome addition there.
The rebuild continues in St.Louis for sure, but there are some great young pieces on the roster and a whack of high picks and prospects upcoming. Appears GM RT is taking a whole different approach this time around.
