A little surprised this hasn't been posted already but at the risk of opening up a can o' worms, Israel has attacked Hamas in Gaza killing the head of thier military wing. In addition, it has been reported that several civilians have been killed. This was done in retaliation for missle strikes lauched from Gaza into Israel, aimed at civilian populations. The missle strikes have apparantly increased in frequency over the last few weeks.

It appears that this is far from over as Hamas has, of course, sworn revenge while Israel is moving it's ground forces in position for, presumably, an invasion into certain areas of Gaza.
The UN security council held an emergency meeting on Wednesday. I'm sure they'll get a lot accomplished
With the tension in Egypt, the conflict in Syria, Iran just itching for an opportunity to go after Israel and elections coming up in Israel, this could quickly escalate.
