Thought I might start a thread about famous people who play hockey. Perhaps folks that you might not expect.
Anyone who gets the hockey news knows
John Kerry plays fairly regularly.
But how about Pope John Paul II?
Quote:
In the winter, the future pontiff played ice hockey on the Skawa's frozen surface and went skiing.

Quote:
The Canadian youths gave the Pope a hockey stick with his name, John Paul, inscribed on the back. And his number: 2, in Roman numerals, of course. It was Roger's idea.
"Because I love hockey," he explained, gently shrugging his shoulders.
The Pope surprised them by confiding, "60 years ago, I too played hockey!"

Quote:
At the end of a youth rally at Kiel Center, where the St. Louis Blues hockey team played, a teenager handed the pope a sports jersey with "John Paul II" emblazoned across the back. Flashing a sly smile, the pope replied, slowly and in his thick Polish accent, "I am prepared to return to play hockey." Then, walking off the stage, he turned his walking cane into a hockey stick and sent an imaginary puck into the corner.
