When I bought my new vehicle last fall, the fact that it came with winter tires on rims was a selling point, for sure. Even if the tires are halfway through their life, you're still getting the rims.
For my other vehicle, I bought some tires on alloys a few years back on Kijiji. Well worth it. I'm actually looking forward to replacing those tires as this will be their last winter, but they've done me well for 2-3 winters now.
I am guessing that buying winter tires in the spring or summer might get me some deals on leftover winter stock, but I'm not sure if the tire market works that way. They might just warehouse them for next year.
