I saw it, and liked it. But I can't help but feel a little... underwhelmed? After all the amazing reviews and hype built up, I was expecting to be really blown away. Not as good as Casino, I think.
Some thoughts, in spoilers cause it's just coming out:
Spoiler!
No explanation on how he survived two gunshots, a hundred foot fall, and being unconscious underwater? Nope, he's just okay...
The komodo dragon part was corny. Like Roger Moore corny.
There really wasn't a Bond girl.
Bardem was brilliant as Silva, but why spend all this time establishing this really awesome/sinister villain, who is an amazing hacker that can do anything, who has a list of every secret agent in the world, and whose ultimate goal is.... to kill M.
Why bother even stealing the list of agents in the first place? You could've just hacked MI6 and blown it up and they'd still come after you, list or not. And then Bond's ultimate plan is... to take on Silva and his army of like fifteen guys, working together with two 70-year-olds, in the middle of nowhere.
There really wasn't a redemption scene kind of thing... they spend half the movie talking about how he failed all his exams and shouldn't be in the field, and we see him struggling a bit. Then he owns like three guys, captures Silva, and the next day is chasing him through London, and beating all his men at his old house. I guess all he needed to do was shave?
Too many cornball lines. Wasn't the point of Casino Royale to move away from that stuff?
Also, thanks for killing off the old bag so we can finally get someone who actually makes sense in the role of M.
Still lots of excellent action scenes, some nice throwbacks, really good effects. Loved the score too. Just a lot of complaints too.
