2012 average attendance:
Vancouver 30,356 (2.3 million population)
Calgary 28,665 (1.2 million population)
Montreal 22,457 (1.9 million population)
Toronto 23,690 (6.1 million population)
now look at
Regina 32,351 (200,000 population)
Winnipeg 27,981 (700,000 population)
Hamilton 25,724 (500,000 population)
Really the only exception to this theory is Edmonton 34,318 (800,000 population). And it's hard to refer to Edmonton as either a white-collar educated city or a backwater dump. They are sort of in the middle.
So yes, point still stands.
