You can have 4 of the same type of mech selected if you want. You can even purchase (and have selected) multiples of the same variant. Elite is definitely worth it.
As far as I know the start of open beta was to be the last wipe. However, if they do wipe everything again you will be refunded the MC value of anything you purchased with MC. They've been doing this for founders for months.
Also, just to clear something up with endo/ferro fibrous; the tonnage freed by applying one of these upgrades will always be rounded down to nearest half ton. For something like a Jenner I would recommend taking an XL Engine over endo steel.
