The problem with characters like Lori, is that in every show about a male anti-hero's path to redemption (Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Dexter etc.) is that there is always a wife that does whatever she can to make the male anti-hero less awesome and fun. They do a lot to ground the show and add realism, but they're always the same, shifting their loyalty between their men and their values. It never really leads anywhere and the characters have nothing new to say by seasons 2-4, at which point they are unceremoniously dumped (Rita, Betty) or they are too essential to the shows character and the writers desperately try to give them something interesting to do (Carmela, Skyler).
For some people who watch a lot of these shows, like me, Lori was just a limp re-incarnation of a character we were sick of long ago.
