Something smells.

Why would anyone get traded in the first place then? His success in his time with Cleveland hardly makes him an untouchable. He showed signs of promise but did not set the world on fire. This was not someone who set the world on fire. Very much the same as the Jays bringing in Avilies, they saw him as someone who could give the team value but were willing to part with him when they saw the chance to get someone else.
They see Gomes as a catcher and Avilies is a nice utility infielder to have around. They see Rogers as a dispensable pitcher they can afford to move to pick up other pieces and perhaps view the 53 innings they pitched with them to not be as valuable as the Blue Jays did. Clearly AA seems to value strong throwing right handed relief pitchers, and there is a much greater emphasis on the bullpen in the AL East then in any other division it would seem.
