Bingo, run your cables as you normally wold connecting any source to the VCR. Just make sure that when you "play" the feed from your dish receiver that you drop the feed from 1080i or 720i down to 480i. You should be able to record without any problem. I do this from my HD DVR all the time, and the problem has always been the source signal being "too rich" for the device to record. I hope this helps.
