Can you view the HD through the VCR?

I'm certainly no expert, but it seems to me that you would need to plug the main line to the digital reciever, the digital reciever to the VCR, the VCR to the TV. I don't have a fancy receiver though, so not sure if it has a couple outputs on the back?
