I have a 5 year old cat that wakes me up almost every morning at 4:30 am. She does the same thing - paces around my head, raspy 'meows', licking, and really loud purring. If I ignore her, she will start scraping her claws lightly across my forehead, and if I keep ignoring her, she'll do it hard.

I have tried different things to try and break this habbit, and the only thing I find that works at least some of the time is to bring her to bed with me when I first go to sleep. I find that she tends to sleep through the night that way. It seems that when she wakes up in a different room alone, then she wants to go wake someone up.
