I think part of the issue here was all the people who rushed to install iOS 6 without looking to see what the changes were; and how it would impact them.

Just because they were forced to release their own product, doesn't mean they were forced to release something that was below the standard that their customers expect from them, given their track record.
Of course, its not like this is news to anyone who frequents CP, so I can't imagine using the new Maps app without at least being sure it was taking me to the right place. So the bolded part is really the problem here. You can't blame Apple for a mistake you made using their product, unless you were somehow living under a rock and didn't realize there was a huge problem with the Maps app they released.
