The fact that I have given up approximately 5% of my gross income for more than a decade, plus whatever extra money I had when I couldn't afford seasons tickets to support this team makes me a REAL fan. I backed up my love of this team with my hard earned money. Every. Single. Year.

I have lived in Calgary my entire life, and have cheered for the Calgary Flames from the day the started playing in The Corral. I remember being a 6 year old kid, and staring at Willi Plett in AWE as he walked to the ice through the Corral concourse. I am as REAL of a Flames fan as there ever was. I sat in that building blindly cheering and blowing any extra buck I had for the failure that was the mid 90's to early 2000's Flames. I am the guy they need to worry about losing, because I back my love of the team up, with cold, hard cash, in advance every year. And you know what, I am not alone. There are a ton of people out there right now that are saying enough is enough. Players come and go, and no matter what they think they are worth, they are not worth more than the game, or the businessmen that spend 100's of millions to give them a league, buildings, TV deals, etc to have that right. They simply don't get it.

These players in 20 years, have seen a 6 fold average increase in income, if not more. I haven't, you haven't, and 99% of Canadians haven't. They have won the lottery, and looked at the cheque and said "That's it?" I cannot support a bunch of spoiled brats that live like kings, when rightfully only a handful should.

Matt Stajan, and Shawn Horcoff both make more money than the President of the United States by a large multiple, most brain surgeons and a good chunk of corporate CEO's in this country. Digest that for a minute, and tell me there isn't something wrong with the state of affairs in the NHL right now. These guys should be on their knees, puckering up, and kissing their owners right on the brown eye for being so frikkin stupid to give them a nickel more than league minumum, let alone multi year, 8 figure contracts.
