The other thing there was that the Pats were up by 4 points. You have a condensed field and have to keep the other team out of the end zone. I think knowing that you have 30 yards of field to defend and can't allow a TD isn't that much different than defending 70. That much field teams play prevent, and open themselves up to big plays.
Truthfully, to start OT....I'd go with. Surprise on side kick, and up 4 points late in a game I'd do the same thing.
