Picking up twitter and facebook feeds from those living in the larger communities closest to the epicentre (Prince Rupert, Kitimat, Port Hardy) it appears there was some minor shaking but nobody's talking about any significant damage. The most interesting news so far is that there's been significant ocean swell of 1.5-3m observed. Basically a small tsunami that should peter out before it hits anywhere big enough for google to mark on a map. Basically, it looks as though unless you have family and friends right at the epicentre (Masset?) or in the coast guard or a houseboat in that area, you don't have to be too worried.

Now, here's hoping that was the quake and not just a foreshock. They're calling it a 7.1 now, which is the same size of the quake that hit Japan 2 days before the 9.0. And since everybody else has been getting 9.0s lately, it seems we're about due over here...

Yes, I know: "about due" in geological terms could mean anytime in the next couple hundred years.
