Reading the guys twitter, it's pretty clear he had his demons. I realize how trivial something like that may sound, but for a long time now it seems that every tweet was about his mental state and how he was coping with life.
I find that in cases like this, some people may jump the gun in making an observation that mental health could be a factor in why someone would do such a horrible thing, sometimes a spade is just a spade, but it can also be met with (not directing this at you) a lot of resentment, as if that person is siding with the murderer in all of this. Someone with mental health problems, is not innocent in every other aspect of his life. Clearly, as you said this guy lived a lifestyle, we could assume, that someone with a good heart would not. It's pretty clear he was calling for help for a long time, and the deeper down that rabbit hole you go, in terms of your mental well being, the darker and darker life gets if nobody is there to pull you out.
It's a tragic story to read. Clearly people could see this happening from a mile away and the police did nothing. It's tragic to think a mother could predict this was going to happen to her daughter, actively try to stop it and then have it happen.
