For more than three decades, Reggie Jackson had been the only man alive to hit three home runs in a World Series game. Babe Ruth had done it before him, twice, but since Jackson’s magical night in 1977, nobody living could relate.
Then, as Jackson listened on the radio in California on Saturday night, he had company. Albert Pujols put his name beside Ruth’s and Jackson’s with a performance for the ages, destined to be etched in bronze on a plaque in Cooperstown.
