I don't seem to remember Iginla having that hype or flash. He did come out at the World Juniors, but definitely not the dazzley type player. It was so long that I don't fully remember 'the hype'. It was a different time as well, hype just wasn't the same without the internet.

Phaneuf was a dominant offensive defenseman in the game for a few years before being traded to the Leafs. I'd hardly say he failed to live up to the hype. He was a beast in Calgary, end to end rushes and blistering one-timers being the norm for a while there. 75 goals in a little over 4 seasons from a D-man is impressive, regardless of who we are talking about.
Eventually though, he turned into a defensive liability and missed the net more often than he hit it, so he became expendable. No denying what he achieved in a few short years though. All-Star, Calder and Norris finalist and the boy dished out some of the best hits I've ever seen a Flame deliver.
I miss him.
