My own experience - I was bored once and decided to see what it would be like to get off of Deerfoot at 17th Ave and drive all of the way over to Stoney Tr and drive north to Beddingto (my commute would normally be between Beddington and Glenmore Trail).
There is no way I would do that again. I don't think anybody would try to bypass Deerfoot that way, as I found it was a big waste of time.
I do use it though to go from my house to Costco or to get to HWY 1 or Olympic Park. It's convenient that way. I think that's how most people use Stoney Trail currently. Sure beats taking Country Hills Blvd anywhere in the NW.
