Herdman brought in his own trainers and a sports physiologist that has traveled with the girls since he was hired last fall. He's also a guy that relies on Xs and Os. He's meticulous and relentless.

I am under no illusions as to why the team went from last in the 2011 World Cup in Germany to third at these Olympic games. The reasons is connectivity created by leadership. This victory was the result of hours spent creating a common language, discussing and molding the team's identity. The coaching staff trusted us to raise the performance bar we had set for ourselves because they did the same thing.
