I wonder if we may be talking about a time difference. I'm talking about the 40's and 50's. That's what the store owner called them, so that's what we asked for.

With regard to the "eeny meany miny mo..." I do know when it got to my kids they used "catch a tiger by the toe...", so perhaps the candies had been renamed also by that time.
