I can't add anything to the California NFL discussion but I'll share my NFL experiences anyways. I've been to two games now, Steelers at Cardinals last season, Rams at Bears just a few weeks ago.

I didn't realize how well the Steelers fans travel, the crowd in Arizona was at least half black and yellow. Having said that I wouldn't have any reservations about wearing the opposing colors in Arizona, regardless of how well your team's fans travel. The stadium wasn't sold out (granted the Cards were pretty bad last year) and the crowd was generally very tame. What a stadium though, beautifully done. Never waited in a line for anything, and sat close to the action near the 20 yard line for $100. And the tailgating was excellent, they have a huge lawn area right outside one of the stadium entrances where thousands of people had tents set up with TV's, coolers, games, etc.

I was surprised at the amount of Rams fans in Chicago but from what I saw they didn't really get a tough time from the home crowd. The only physical altercation I saw was actually between two Bears fans. In a long beer line a guy wearing a Rams jersey was getting a bit of ribbing from some Bears fans (telling him they don't serve people in ugly jerseys, go find a Rams beer vendor, etc). For the most part though, it seemed like people were just there to watch football, which is how it should be.

Going to see the Pats next year. Anyone been?
