A friend of mine posted this, and I think she's right on the mark.

Maybe it's time to start focusing our attention on why our children feel it's okay to be so relentless and cruel in their hatred of another person. I know there's always been bullies and maybe it's just playing out more publicly now in this generation but then I think of all the reality shows which showcase adults bullying and being cruel to one another. Magazines that are constantly reporting th... e downfall of celebrities whether they've cheated or gained weight or lost weight. We've created a reality where it's okay to focus on everyone's shortcomings and spread the news.
Facebook and twitter are covered with links to tragic stories like this and yet, how often do we hear stories like the young boy that, just two days ago, was honored by Stephen Harper for starting a backpack project for underprivileged children. I can't even find an article to link because the only way I know about it is because someone I know happened to be there and told me.
Like the Romans we are entertained by cruelty, violence and shock. How would things look today and how many bullying stories would we hear about if we stopped following the lives of socialites with sex tapes and started focusing on the people who are actually making positive changes and pointing us to the good in humanity, because it is there.
