Horror movie guy here. There's a big difference between scariest and good horror movies. Here are some of my favourite horror movies

Off the top of my head, in no real particular order:

Jacob's Ladder
The Shining
Let The Right One In (Swedish original)
Silence of the Lambs*
Poltergeist
Rosemary's Baby
Sleepaway Camp - 80s cheesy horror movie. But very strong and a GREAT ending.
Alien
28 Days Later
Texas Chainsaw Massacre - I like both the '74 and 2000s one
Nightmare on Elm Street
Halloween
Sixth Sense

HIGHLY recommend Jacob's Ladder and Let the Right One In if you haven't seen them yet.

For me, The Exorcist doesn't stand the test of time. I know it is regarded as the best horror movie of all time, but I just can't take it serioulsy anymore. I don't find it scary as I did when I was under 10 years old...I actually find it humerous. Regan's lines can easily be brushed off.
