A lot of examples here are guest appearances or supporting roles.

I was going to link to the article but even a couple of the ones they list didn't seem like cameos to me.

Anthony Hopkins in MI:2? Did he have any significance to the series previously? Seemed to me like it was just a small part.

On the other hand, Sean Connery in Robin Hood makes sense to me because he played the part previously.
