I'm going to Adelaide, Australia at the beginning of November to compete in the World Lifesaving Championships.

How best to tackle the jet lag/time difference? I was thinking about switching my days/nights the week before... but with the 2 days of travel/time change will this even help? Or just try to sleep on the plane (yeah, right!) and set my watch to Adelaide time right before I hop on the plane?

I only have a day and a half before my first race, and I don't want to messed up and waste my whole trip because I wasn't prepared enough.
