Debate is fine. Personal attacks aren't. There's no need for them in a debate is you have a sufficient argument. You were being a jerk about Rerun's point of view, saying you felt sorry for him that he considers his dog his best friend. You said that it was sad that he had to look to an animal for that kind of companionship. That's not a difference of opinion, that's you being an a$$hole.
