Lastly, my favorite use for my apple stuff is the composite video out, and how nicely it does anamorphic widescreen. Really my main reason for keeping my ipad and ipod is for providing content to the rear tvs in my cars, which all seem to only have comp in inputs. I guess I will have to keep buying old iPods for this purpose until I find an hdmi car.

Your friends house is going to have a lighting adapter with a couple months to a year as well.
Why would you have to buy old iPods? The lightning connector should be able to do composite out.
