Again, a small thing, but small things repeated over and over add up to big things. Not even consciously, but they still impact our perceptions and decisions.
And yes it makes them more money too, that's the whole point of running a company, shocking.

Maybe, it is a tad more convenient. I think you will forget about all that slight ease of use the first time you end up at a friend's house with a dead phone needing a charge... chances are they'll have a micro usb adapter and maybe an old Apple charger, but it will be a while before you can count on randomly finding a lightning charger.
And what about all these cars, treadmills, stereos etc with ipod inputs... I guess they'll all be useless to new apple stuff.
Lastly, my favorite use for my apple stuff is the composite video out, and how nicely it does anamorphic widescreen. Really my main reason for keeping my ipad and ipod is for providing content to the rear tvs in my cars, which all seem to only have comp in inputs. I guess I will have to keep buying old iPods for this purpose until I find an hdmi car.
