I am sure this point had been made before, but I don't see the issue with having a different connector type.

The fact that the cable can 'reconfigure' itself for multiple uses makes it more than worthwhile. With 8 wires, it will clearly support USB3 when the need is there, likely with just an OS update.

While I would like a universal connector, I really cant blame them for wanting to move forwards instead of backwards and adopting microusb.
