The connector is cool and all, but it isn't exactly 'new.' Its just the same idea in a different form. Which is exactly what Apple does a lot of.

Given that the sustained read/write speeds of the flash memory in iPhones fall within USB 2.0's limits, I'm not sure why you think they should've gone with different technology on the computer's end.
