I made a template for the bow tie out of 1/4 plywood, scribed with a knife for the blade width accuracy (pencils are too fat) onto a solid block of black walnut.
I then cut out the bow ties on the bandsaw and sanded out any chatter marks.
From there I took each cut bowtie and scribed onto the slab across the cracks. I then drilled down into the "removal area" with a forstner bit down to 7/8" in depth.
Next up a plunge router to the same depth and slowly cleaned out the removal area leaving about 1/32 - 1/16 from the scribe lines. I then finished up with a chisel cleaning out everything up to the scribe lines.
from here, slop on the glue to the necessary surfaces then smack it down using a sacrificial piece of wood and a hammer.
Once dried I used a belt sander, then random orbit and then a thickness sander to get a perfect finish.
