Its really nothing special, but Coles notes:

Before they are able to tie us up, I attack and attempt to neutralize the weapon as best as possible, even to my own detriment.

Then at the same time she beats the living #### out of them. We have some 'self defense' weapons placed strategically around the home to facilitate this.

The real key, imho, is that she knows it will happen and she knows it will happen at a specific time, so she is ready to act. If she didn't, any time I spent in my initial assault would be wasted.
