I realize that Apple (and other tech companies, of course) enjoys obsolescence in order to drive sales on new models, but it leaves a bad taste when an update is made available for a device that could never handle it, and there is no official/easy way to roll back.
That being said, I'll probably update to iOS6 as soon as it is available.

It's available now, and I've noticed no issue whatsoever on a 4S so far. You just need to be aware that google maps is missing for the time being (have to use the web site or wait for google to release the app).
