TSN has just heard that Kings C Valtteri Filppula has just been traded to the Dallas Stars, in exchange for C Patrik Berglund.
Filppula's agent was reached by phone, and he confirmed that his client received a call from the Kings stating that he had been traded to the Stars.
In addition, Kings backup goaltender Jacob Markstrom was told today that he has been dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for D Keith Yandle. The Kings also gave their first round pick to Toronto in the deal.
Los Angeles Kings GM Stealth22 was reached by phone late Saturday to discuss the moves. "Like I told you guys, we're always looking for ways to improve our team. We have an elite starter in Neuvirth, and we were in conversations with Toronto. They were looking for a starting goalie, and they sort of implied that Keith was on the table for the right price. I was a little apprehensive about the pick at first, but it upgrades our back end a little bit. We're comfortable with Neuvirth moving forward, and Peter (Budaj) is a solid #1B or #2A goaltender. Jacob is an amazing goalie, and we hated to give him up, but we wish him well with the Leafs. He's got a solid career ahead of him."
"And the Berglund deal sort of just fell together tonight. Just a little earlier, jedaco, the Stars GM called me, and expressed interest in Filppula, and we made the deal. Patrik is a young guy that has a lot of potential, and he would fit in great in our top 6."
When asked if there were any more moves coming, the Kings GM had no comment. "I can't talk about anything specific in that regard. All of the GM's are always in contact with one another, we're always talking. Does that mean we've all got secret deals going on? No. But we're always in conversation, and getting a feel for what's out there."
