So my dad gave me his two rifles. A 22 and a 30-30. I know SFA about guns, and neither does he. He's had them kicking around for 30 years after he bought them just to fire for fun, here and there. They're dusty, but they're in pretty good condition.
So first question... The gun registry has been scrapped, right? So it's legal for these things to collect more dust in the corner of my storage room?
Second question... I do have my hunting license, so maybe one day I'll actually go out and hunt. Should I do something to these guns before I buy bullets and start shooting?
Third question... The 22 has a crack in the wood right around the chamber. Is this a safety issue? Logic tells me that the firing takes place inside the barrel, and the wood is just to hold it, so I think it's fine, but I really don't know anything about guns.
Last question... Does it bother anyone that a guy that knows nothing about guns just gave his son, who also knows nothing about guns, two guns?
