I find TVs and smartphones are basically the same thing.
Look at how many different types of TVs there are on the market. You can get one of any size, clarity, 3D, Smart, Web enabled, resolution etc. Really though, you do not see any major innovation these days, just small upgrades. I prefer Samsung TVs to the competition, but truthfully, you could put 100 of similar models against each other and would be very difficult to notice the difference.
It seems that people expect Apple to revolutionize the industry every september, and that won't happen.
Short answer, both phones are comparable, so chose the one you are happy with. Listening to the Android Vs Apple banter feels like people are insulting religions here.
