Obviously this deal looks terrible in light of what was given up for originally for Richards. Moreover, I can say that as a general rule you should never trade a good starting goalie without getting one back. I've made that mistake.
But what may save you is the fact that Backstrom may only be a starter for another season. If Dubnyk develops into the Oiler #1 in front of an improving team, and Kreider continues to product - you'll be OK.
Some risk involved in this swap though.
