It's pretty obvious he wasn't a sleek con-man planning all of his steps. Based on the articles telling the story it seems as though he probably wasn't planning to scam money when he started faking the Cancer. He would have been smart to flee the country before he was charged but it's not like he had all that much money to travel around and he probably didn't expect the story to blow up in the media so much. |
My guess is that he started the cancer thing to provoke sympathy and caring and attention from the people around him. He desperately needs people to pay attention to him and care about him and this probably seemed like a good way to do it. It's possible it wasn't even a totally conscious decision to begin faking it. Then it spiralled out of control.
He's been arrested, btw.
