I think his nominations would have been great in a normal week given time to explain to Ian and then Danielle why. With Ian he could have easily convinced him that he would be safe no matter what and it keeps the charade up that they are enemies, probably could have convinced Ian it was his idea just like the veto last week too  . With Danielle much the same except, unlike Ian, she really did have nothing to worry about. In the meantime he gets out Joe, hurting Shane in the process without actually betraying him, and could have done damage control with Jenn on betraying Frank and probably could have got a final 2 aliance sealed from her as well.
Unfortunately, based solely on the end of the last episode (haven't seen the feeds), Danielle was too stupid to realize how safe of a pawn she actually was and looks like she is upset with Dan and Jenn somehow still hasn't figured out about the Quack Pack? If she had she should realize Dan went against them to keep her safe (obviously for his own intentions) but I don't think that's dawned on her yet.
