WEEK 11: Labour Day Battle of Alberta - Part Deux
Stampeders won the Labour Day Battle of Alberta - Part One 31-30. Would they sweep the Labour Day Classics BOA tomorrow and let the Eskimos even it up? The Stamps finally won back-to-back games this season beating the Riders last week and the Eskimos on Labour Day.
OFFENSE:
Another good game by the Offensive Line on Monday. I am starting to like the young Spencer Wilson's play. On one play, he made some block to give Jon Cornish some room. Cornish fumbled the ball but Wilson scooped the ball up right away.
QB Kevin Glenn threw for 273 yards, 2 TD but 2 INT. The last INT almost cost them the game but Glenn kept his composures and ended up scoring a TD pass to Larry Taylor with a little over a minute to go that put them ahead 31-30. Stamps missed the 2-point convert when McDaniel dropped the ball on the end zone.
R Nik Lewis caught 7 passes for 101 yards and he is now within 92 yards of 10,000 receiving yards in his career. RB Matt Walter ran for his first TD in his career on a 3rd down gamble late in the game.
RB Jon Cornish went 4 for 23 receiving yards and run for 71 yards on the ground. He also bailed out Kevin Glenn giving a bone-crushing block on #90 Sewell who was clsoing in on Glenn. For the 2nd week in a row, Cornish won the Canadian Player of Week.
DEFENSE:
Stamps held the Eskimos to 78 yards in rushing. They are 4th in the CFL pass defense averaging 279 yards.
Against the Eskimos, MLB Juwan Simpson had 7 tackles and now 8th in the CFL with 43 tackles. DL Charleston Hughes had 6 tackles and he is 1st among defensive linemen in the league with 24 tackles. Hughes also leads the team with 4 QB sacks. LB Chris Randle had his 1st INT of his early CFL career.
DL Torrey Davis has been traded to Hamilton yesterday for future considerations.
SPECIAL TEAM:
Larry Taylor finished the game with 99 yards on return. On the last play of the game Kicker Shaw went wide on his field goal attempt and Taylor managed to escaped giving up a single point to avoid a tie. Punter Rob Maver averaging 48.3 yards on his 3 punts. He is now 3rd in the CFL with 44.8 average.
************************************************** *********
Edmonton Eskimos announced QB Kerri Joseph as a starting QB on the rematch tomorrow night. No word if RB Cory Boyd will draw in the lineup or will sit out another game. Chances are he will suit up but not sure if all 3 RB will dress or one will sit again.
GO STAMPS GO!!!!
Game Time: 7:00pm at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton
Televised : TSN & RDS2. For the fans in the US, the game will be televised live on NBCSN and live webcast on ESPN3.
