All I am saying is that if your roof can be fixed for a minimal amount ity is better than to go through insurance. If you have enough damage and the entire roof needs to be replaced....go for it. We had wind damage on our house a couple years back and the shingles could have been repaired but there was no match...... this meant a new roof was in order. $12000 claim later we went through insurance.

If you can fix it for under $500. better to fix than to go through insurance.
Some insurance companies will even waive the deductible if it is over a certain amount.
