There aren't any repercussions right now. I was reading an article about that yesterday, how the concept of donating to some sort of an project is being replaced by people pre-buying a product.
It is one thing if you back an album that turns out crappy, entirely something else if you back a product in expectation of receiving that product and it turns to vapour. The concept of Kickstarter wasn't really developed with the concept of a refund in mind.
