Hardware is almost entirely irrelevant in the mobile space. People buy mobile on the strength of three factors: form factor & construction, battery life, and most importantly, I believe, software.
I don't think Apple has ever really led with hardware now that I think about it - has the iPhone ever been the fastest, most RAM, most cores, lightest, or longest battery life phone on the market?
