Mostly for music so you can stream to different locations in your house through WiFi. If you have one in your living room, one in your kitchen, and one in your basement each with stereos hooked up to them you can play music through any or all of them and control them from your phone or computer. So if you're in the kitchen you can play music on those speakers, but then if you move to the living room or basement you can switch where the music plays. Or if you want music all over the house you can send it to all (or some) of the Airport Expresses and they'll sync up.
