For me, it has to be LAX. That airport seemed like it was run by some sort of angry biting animal. Everyone (from the information clerk to the security guard) acted like jerks. The worst airport in the world.
I have flown a lot over the last few years (makes up for having never flown or even travelled until i was 23) and for me airports have often become a microcosim for the truth behind different countries mentalities.

America inparticular. They are supposed to be so 'rich' of a country but their airports overwhelmingly SUCK. There are a few notable exceptions but their strong desire to avoid all taxes and extra fee's prevents anything from being improved. They are overwhelmingly falling apart, are dirty, are stuck in the '80's, are stuffy and poorly ventilated and lit, sell chinzy crap, and are full of fat people in (unneeded other then for their massive bulk) wheelchairs. Whereas in say... Canada (Or Hong Kong, or Bangkok, or so on), we might complain as comsumers about all the added fee's and such but i would put YYC, YVR and YYZ against virtually any American competitor in the same size class, often by a embarrassingly large margin.

Trust me when i say that when you are stuck in airports for many hours, have long layovers, or have veyr long journeys the extra ~$30's in fees doesn't seem like a big deal anymore.

That being said, i have always found American airports to be FAR more friendly then Canadian ones. Our custom's staff in Canada are some of the scariest i have ever encountered - Of the 7 countries i have visited in the past 18 months (Customs cleared in: HongKong, Thailand (x5), Laos(x2), Cambodia, Phillippines, USA(x6), Canada(x8)) it is easily the most intimidating.

That all being said, the worse i would say is Laguardia in NYC.
