Like him or not, Jack Layton provided the voter something that federal Canadian politics hadn't seen in quite some time; a charismatic and in some ways inspiring leader. How he earned the seats to become official opposition just went to show how starved Canadians are for a leader and not just a politician. This all in spite of having a hilarious platform that would have bankrupted the government.
He deserved a state funeral

He wasn't inspiring or charismatic at all. He was a d-bag and a blowhard full of empty promises that he knew he would never have to fulfill based on his stupid ideas.
His rising to power shows nothing about him and everything about how stupid voters are in the East (especially Quebec) and what a complete disaster the Liberal Party turned into.
Good riddance. The country is much better off with him out of politics. It is unfortunate we have to waste money on a piece of garbage like him.
