It only has to be out of site if you are away from the vehicle. I literally throw mine on the back seat if I'm going out...If I stop for coffee, they gotta get stashed. Drives my girlfriend crazy sometimes. I case them most of the time now, just cause I don't need a parade of firearms going in and out of my house, that is just asking for a break in
