You can legally shoot any non restricted firearm on any private land with permission of the owner, barring municipal discharge bylaws, and paying attention to the distance rules (200yds from any roadway, occupied building, etc). You can also do the same on any crown land (plenty off forestry roads). For those two options, pick a decent backstop, hillside, etc. There is also an open to the public range out of town called "Homestead Range". Its government operated/club maintained, its not bad mid week or so-so weather, can be busy and full of tools weekends and hot days. They have a rifle range, and a shotgun "pit" basically. Clean up after yourself!
Careful shooting at trees, they have the potential to ricochet, or alter a bullet path. Considering the dangerous range of many rifles is up to 2km, that could cause you some problems
